Leading managers from the world of business joined forces to deliver a valuable resource for children with disabilities; whilst also honing their leadership skills.
The leaders were part of the latest General Management Programme (GMP) run by CEDEP, the first international executive education club. The GMP is CEDEP’s leading, most demanding and senior programme, designed for high energy and high potential accomplished senior managers and executives. Participants on the programme seek to sharpen their business acumen and their ability to react to a complex business environment.
A part of their challenge was to plan and deliver a valuable wheelchair accessible pathway for children at Le Petit Tremblay, a part of the IEM. The participants had to structure their team and build the high-quality resource against the clock.
“CEDEP continues to believe that this exercise is a valuable part of the General Management Programme journey and of other leadership development programmes delivered by CEDEP,” said Thomas Hinterseer, the Managing Director at CEDEP.
“It’s more than a team building exercise. Participants relish the idea of creating something worthwhile which can have a great impact on the lives of others. The learning goes beyond the Splash event itself and valuable lessons are drawn from this experience, directly and immediately applicable back in the participants’ working environment. We are extremely proud of our partnership with Splash.”
Le Petit Tremblay supports nearly 60 children and young people who have a range of disabilities. Each child benefits from a personalised plan with input from doctors, therapists and coaches. Most of the children use wheelchairs or other mobility aids.
Together the GMP team created a wheelchair accessible pathway with sensory tunnels. The first was a music tunnel with a series of different instruments; encouraging sound and touch stimulation. The second, a tactile insect area including a live insect hotel, as well as a 3D tic tac toe game; to help encourage touch and visual stimulation. They also created a shaded seating pod for relaxation. The project will form a physical link between two previous projects built by CEDEP Brambles and GMP participants.
“The GMP team worked outside their comfort zone and reacted quickly to the challenge in order to deliver on time,” said Simon Poole, the Managing Director of Splash Projects.
“This fast-paced challenge is designed to stretch the GMP team’s decision-making, leadership and collaboration skills to the limits. It complements the other aspects of CEDEP’s intensive programme and demonstrates what can be achieved through working together.”
