Many of us operate in a cage or frame, unable to look beyond our boundaries. A nice way of illustrating this is the famous invisible gorilla video made by Christopher Chabris and Daniel Simmons at Harvard a few years back. It’s a great example of the fact that we sometimes tend to concentrate on one task without looking at the bigger picture.
In one of our recent programmes with Brambles, we wanted to test our participants’ peripheral vision and see their awareness to potential disruption and what impact it might have. To challenge the participants thinking, we recreated the gorilla scene during the cocktail when everyone was busy networking and discussing the day to see how long it took for them to notice the intruder!
